" Sherwood is at the head of the studios of Sirius Satellite Radio in New York, where the Stern show will be recorded and you talk about Howard, though hot.
In a press release from the gentlemen at "Tempe 12," CEO David Freeman says the girls aren't just empty vessels but "educated, driven, and down-to-earth college girls who just happen to be drop-dead gorgeous." "Quite frankly, most of them have no actual interest in modeling!" insists Freedman. "There are a lot more to these girls than their looks, and if you build up enough courage to sit next to one in class, you will see for yourself!" No interest in modeling, huh? Well, they've certainly chosen an interesting career path then.
The statement urged Arizonans to find the 8:30 show and listen to "The Hottest girls college in this country, and perhaps the most intelligent." Sweet, which is better than to listen to Hot Chick? But do not worry, we're certainly all Sherwood's friends Mensa is tuning up "Hey now!"

Is there such thing as the fan in the Residence? Because I just read that Garth Brooks will be the artist in residence of the Wynn resort in Sin City. At least that's what celebrity columnist Robin Leach says. The story is totally untrue, saying that Brooks had a charity show since he retired in 2001.
But even if there's a bit of truth to this story, I'm thrilled. And I'm going. I have never been to Las Vegas because I'm not much a gambler, but this may be just the enticement I need. Seeing Brooks perform is something that should be on every country fan's things-to-do-before-I-die list. Not just because he pioneered some very cool concert tricks but because I feel very strongly that his voice, his music and his songs still define what country music is today. What do you think, readers — did absence make your hearts grow even fonder, or does it feel like he never really left? How do you think his return will hold up to the comebacks of other “retirees” like Cher, Barbra Streisand and Jay-Z?
"I know that this is a young industry," he told reporters gathered today in Nashville, so I'm not sure I'll be welcomed back, but if the fans want me, I still want to continue my music. "Brooks, who sold about 123 million albums, is the top selling American artist of all time, behind the Beatles '170 million.

palm beach county property appraiser

palm beach county property appraiser
The Palm Beach County Clerk & Comptroller’s office reported it received a record-breaking 18,325 petitions by the Sept. 14 deadline. That’s up nearly 40 percent from the 13,200 appeals filed a year ago. Of those, 9,888, were for residential properties, 2,587 were commercial, 1,334, were for vacant lots/acreage, 1,098 were industrial, 130 were agricultural and 3,288 were unspecified. The value adjustment board, which receives and processes petitions, said in a news release that “the sluggish economy, proposed increases in property taxes” and a law that puts the burden of proving that the assessment is accurate on the property appraiser, are behind the increase.
The same story is playing out in Broward County, where 32,409 petitions were filed by the Sept. 18 deadline, up from 29,822 in 2008. Of those, 8,193 were residential, 10,293 were commercial, 3,145 were vacant lots/acreage and 6,443 were for condos. Most are challenges to the property’s market value, with the remaining pertaining to the property’s exemption status, tangible value, portability and classification, according to Lynda Phillips, Broward County’s VAB supervisor. Miami-Dade County’s value adjustment board has not yet put all of the petitions into its computer system. A spokesman said there were 64,000 so far, and that the number is expected to exceed the 70,000 petitions received in 2008.

The Postal Service starteddelivering the 2009 holiday season by issuing the Winter Holidays stamps yesterday and the Hanukkah and Kwanzaa stamps today at the American Stamp
Dealers Association Mega Stamp Show in New York City. The 2009 Christmas:
Madonna and Sleeping Child by Sassoferrato stamp will be dedicated Oct. 20,
2009, at the Hearst Castle in San Simeon, CA, where the original painting is
located. These popular figures are seen throughout the holidays, decorating homes,
schools, and stores from Thanksgiving to New Year's. They also appear in gift
wrap designs and are the subjects of several favorite songs and stories. As
stamp art, they will add a festive touch to letters and cards sent to friends
and family.
This is the first Postal Service stamp project for artist Joseph Cudd. His
company, Brushworks Studio, in Greensboro, NC, is primarily a gift wrap and
print design firm. To create these stamps under the direction of Richard
Sheaff of Scottsdale, AZ, Cudd first sketched the designs by hand and then
finished them on the computer using a graphics tablet. More than 1.5 billion
44-cent First-Class stamps are available in booklets of 20 and ATM booklets of

christopher columbus

christopher columbus
Americans are celebrating Columbus Day Monday. Columbus Day is a federal holiday observed on the second Monday in October, marking the anniversary of arrival of Christopher Columbus to the Americas. Columbus, an Italian explorer sailing under the Spanish flag, led four expeditions to the New World, but never accomplished his original goal -- to find a western ocean route to Asia. Instead, Columbus ushered in a new era in world history by opening up the Americas to exploration.
Columbus Day became a U.S. holiday in 1971. It is generally observed by banks, the bond market, the Postal Service and other federal agencies, along with most state government offices and some school districts. However, many businesses and stock exchanges remain open. Kolowith's students learn about the explorer's significance — though they also come away with a more nuanced picture of Columbus than the noble discoverer often portrayed in pop culture and legend. "I talk about the situation where he didn't even realize where he was," Kolowith said. "And we talked about how he was very, very mean, very bossy."
Columbus' stature in U.S. classrooms has declined somewhat through the years, and many districts will not observe his namesake holiday on Monday. Although lessons vary, many teachers are trying to present a more balanced perspective of what happened after Columbus reached the Caribbean and the suffering of indigenous populations. "The whole terminology has changed," said James Kracht, executive associate dean for academic affairs in the Texas A&M College of Education and Human Development. "You don't hear people using the world 'discovery' anymore like they used to. 'Columbus discovers America.' Because how could he discover America if there were already people living here?" In Texas, students start learning in the fifth grade about the "Columbian Exchange" — which consisted not only of gold, crops and goods shipped back and forth across the Atlantic Ocean, but diseases carried by settlers that decimated native populations.

usps holidays
Columbus Day is one of eleven federal holidays that close down the USPS post office locations and halt mail delivery. However, many post office locations will be closed for good if the U.S. Postal Service approves the possible consolidation of 371 retail stations and branches. The U.S. Postal Service is expecting a deficit of at least $5 billion this . According to an announcement by the USPS on October 9, a review process that started earlier this summer examined approximately 3,600 stations and branches in urban and suburban areas across the country to determine where consolidations might be feasible.
In a speech last week at the National Press Club in Washington, Postmaster General John Potter said that the USPS could save $20 million to $100 million by closing facilities. With nearly 37,000 Post Offices, stations, branches, contract and community post offices, the Postal Service has the largest retail network in the United States. An additional 56,000 retail locations sell stamps and nearly 18,000 ATMs also dispense sheets of stamps. Postage can also be purchased at usps.com and printed on personal computers.
The consolidation announcement is part of the Station and Branch Optimization and Consolidation initiative that is currently being reviewed by the Postal Regulatory Commission. The filing does not represent a final decision on consolidation. To date, no facility-specific final decisions have been made by the United States Postal Service as a result of this initiative.

los lonely boys

los lonely boys
Los Lonely Boys was compelled to tip its cap to the seminal year even though the three Garza brothers weren't born yet. The last year of arguably last century's most turbulent decade inspired their EP, "1969," which drops next Tuesday. "We couldn't help but notice that 1969 was a very significant year," vocalist-bassist Jojo Garza says while calling from his home in San Angelo, Texas. "It had such an impact, especially musically. So we thought it would be fun to record some songs from that era." Los Lonely Boys, which also includes vocalist-guitarist Henry Garza and drummer Ringo Garza, recorded covers of The Doors "Roadhouse Blues," Santana's "Evil Ways," The Beatles' "She Came Through the Bathroom Window," Blind Faith's "Well All Right" and Tony Joe White's "Polk Salad Annie."
"We thought we knew what Carlos Santana was all about, but we learned even more about him when we recorded 'Evil Ways,' " says Garza. "It's an amazing song. The Beatles song we chose isn't one of their more famous songs, but it's a great song. Who wouldn't want to play a Beatles song? 'Roadhouse Blues' was one of the most straightforward Doors songs. It was a challenge and a treat to do those songs." Los Lonely Boys, which will perform tonight at the Keswick Theatre, put their own twist on the songs. The band, which mixes rock, blues and Tejano, has an identifiable sound.
"I think that's a good thing," says Garza. "We mix up sounds for our own (amalgam). So when we cover a song, it sounds different. But why do a cover reverentially anyway? You got to put your own mark on it. We like doing things differently." That's how the band will render the songs when Los Lonely Boys performs at the Keswick. The trio will render the songs acoustically on its "Brotherhood" tour. "That's a nice changeup and we'll have some fun on stage with our friend Alejandro Escovedo and Hacienda," Garza says.

national coming out day

national coming out day
The National Equality March and rally is this Sunday, October 11 in Washington, D.C., to symbolically coincide with National Coming Out Day. But after 20-plus years, has National Coming Out Day lost it's relevance? So many people are open about their sexuality now, and equal rights under the law is at the forefront of the modern LGBT movement. Is there really a need for a National Coming Out Day anymore? National Coming Out Day is not just an American event. People in countries worldwide participate. Shouldn't there be some acknowledgment of their contributions in our collective quest for equality?
International Equality Day would have a global impact. It would take the pressure off people to pigeonhole themselves into a particular sexual category, and better reflect the times we live in today. For example, same-gender marriage is now recognized by several countries - Canada, Spain, Norway, Sweden, Belgium, the Netherlands, Norway, and South Africa. Civil unions and domestic partnerships are recognized in 17 countries, including the United Kingdom, France, and Germany, just to name a few. Unions are also recognized in some parts of Mexico, Australia, and Venezuela, and other countries.
National Coming Out Day was founded in 1988 by Dr. Robert Eichberg and Jean O'Leary, acting on behalf of their organizations for gay and lesbian equality. National Coming Out Day events are aimed at raising awareness of the LGBT community among the general populace in an effort to give a familiar face to the LGBT movement. At the time it was contemplated, there was no Defense of Marriage Act, or 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell'. The idea of same-gender marriage wasn't even a remote possibility in the U.S. until 2004, when Massachusetts passed a law legalizing it in the state.

florida vs lsu score

florida vs lsu score
Sometimes a coaching staff's week of preparation can almost be heard while watching a game. While Florida's coaches probably didn't exactly put it in these terms, they seemed like they looked at gamefilm of LSU and said, "this defensive line sucks; we can run on them all day long up the middle." The LSU defensive front isn't in the same zip code as the ones that paved the way to national championships and to so much success in the past. And that's why Florida won 13-3 in a game that wasn't anywhere near as close as the final score.
Sorry to go Neanderthal, but Florida's offensive line tested LSU's manhood and exposed it (thankfully, not literally). Dive play up the middle. Dive play up the middle. Pitch up the middle. Dive play up the middle. And so on, and so on and so on. Florida didn't have to do anything fancy offensively because its defense dominated as much as its O line did. The LSU offensive front is mediocre, and it showed. QB Jordan Jefferson completed 11-of-17 passes, but he averaged a mere 5.6 yards per completion and did nothing downfield ... he didn't have the time. Charles Scott tried to make things happen on his own running the ball, but against the swarming Florida D, he didn't have a chance. And the LSU coaches should've known this.
It seems like Les Miles and his staff are the last ones to know how their lines are struggling. LSU had to do something out of the norm and had to do something out of its comfort zone to beat a champion like Florida, and that includes going for it on 4th-and-goal from the one instead of kicking a field goal. LSU didn't play scared, but it didn't play fearless. And it also got beaten up. The spread might not be known for being a power offense, but with the Gators running it in Death Valley, it was a bulldozer.

bank of america chicago marathon

bank of america chicago marathon
The weather question for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon today is whether it will be too cold or just right for setting a world record. With a forecast for temperatures in the 30s at the start, the marathon certainly will be different from the heat-plagued races of the last two years. Different enough to have Larry Moon thinking globally. Moon, who has raced in all the Chicago Marathons, including the four in which world records were set, said he has a feeling. ''There are fast people coming in this year, and with the temperatures we have forecast, there is a good chance we will see a world record this year,'' he said. Executive race director Carey Pinkowski wouldn't go that far.
''I am not predicting anything,'' he said. ''We have some very talented young men and women who come here with the goal of running very fast.'' At the news conference Friday for the elite runners, U.S. women's record holder Deena Kastor said: ''It's a matter of layering. Hopefully, we don't have to wear the puffy coat I had to wear all week.'' ''I don't want to say anything [about a world record], but it depends on the weather,'' Vincent Kipruto of Kenya said.
''Cold is better than warm,'' Irina Mikitenko of Germany said. ''But too cold is not good, either.'' The most unique perspective on the cold came from two-time defending men's wheelchair champion Kurt Fearnley of Australia, who said the cold makes it harder to turn the wheels. ''You just end up whacking your arms against the side of the chair,'' he said.

The Wyoming Department of Transportation announced Tuesday it has applied for $35.5 million in federal economic stimulus funds to complete an improvement project along the 38-mile Togwotee Pass corridor. If the stimulus request is awarded, the 6.5-mile Rosie’s Ridge section of U.S. 26-287 — between Dubois and Jackson — would go to contract as early as May 2010. Construction could occur during the summers of 2010 and 2011. Without the federal funds, WYDOT will likely delay completion of the Togwotee projects until at least 2013, the release states.
“We believe the landslide mitigation and road improvements proposed for Rosie’s Ridge are innovative, improve safety and would benefit the environment for generations to come,” Shelby Carlson, WYDOT district engineer, said in a news release. WYDOT is now seeking letters of support from resource agencies and local governments to include with the application for the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery grant.

big bend national park texas

big bend national park texas
Regrettably, Big Bend National Park, San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, and others are not as protected as we remember, and as they approach their 100th birthday in just seven years, they need our help. Many of the challenges facing our parks 80 years ago still plague the system today, including federal funding shortfalls, air and water pollution, invasive plants and animals, and encroaching development. Moreover, national parks now confront the added threat of global climate change. For instance, non-native, invasive animals and plants are degrading Big Bend National Park. Hundreds of Barbary sheep, also known as Aoudad, threaten the recovery of native desert bighorn sheep. Feral hogs have begun rooting and wallowing at water sources, and were recently documented in the Chisos Mountains, where they compete with the small and tenuous black bear population for food.
Big Bend and other national parks endure because American citizens for generations have fought for the protection of national parks big and small around the country. National parks have a special place in the hearts of the American people. In a 2006 Harris Poll measuring citizen support for federal government programs and services, national parks topped the list. Today, tens of thousands of us help our national parks by sending letters to our elected officials in Washington, D.C., supporting local park friends groups, and volunteering for activities such as clearing trash from the beach at Padre Island, leading tours for visitors to the San Antonio Missions, and maintaining trails and removing invasive weeds from Big Bend.
Congress and the White House also have a responsibility to preserve our national heritage. Last week, a bipartisan commission offered recommendations to enhance the National Park Service itself and its ability to protect our breathtaking landscapes and historic and cultural treasures; and provide opportunities for all of us, especially young people and diverse communities, to connect with our shared national heritage, and be involved in protecting it. This is our chance to renew our promise to America, to ourselves, and to the generations that come after us. Together, we can dust off our old albums, flip through faded family photos of Old Faithful in Yellowstone and bears at Big Bend, and do what is needed to protect America's best idea for our descendants.

hartford marathon

hartford marathon
Patrick Moulton of Providence, R.I. defended his title at the ING Hartford Marathon Saturday morning, pulling away from Jacques Sallberg of Pasadena, Calif. early in the 26.2-mile race for the win. Moulton, who won $6,000, finished in 2 hours, 25 minutes, 21 seconds. Patrick Tarpy of Providence, who will make his marathon debut in New York City next month, won the half-marathon (1:04:42). Joseph Ekuom won the 5K (15:26) and Michelle Sarney was the women's winner (17:57). This is Moulton's third marathon victory. After winning his first marathon at Hartford last year (2:21:48), Moulton, 27, won the SunTrust National Marathon in Washington, D.C. in March. He finished third at the Vermont City Marathon in May in 2:22:23.
The last time John LaRosa ran in the ING Hartford Marathon, he was in no man's land for about 20 miles. "I'm looking forward to having some company this year," said LaRosa, 28, of New Milford. LaRosa, a high school science teacher at Danbury High, finished sixth two years ago in 2 hours, 31 minutes, 21 seconds, his personal best. That would have been good enough to be included in the marathon's New England's Finest program, initiated last year to recognize top regional runners. In Saturday's marathon, which starts at 8 a.m. in Bushnell Park, he will have more a few people to run with.
Two years ago, the program did not exist and there was more of a gap between the top few runners and the next group. Mohammed Awol won in 2:17:19. Jeff Howley of Wilton, Maine, in fifth place ahead of LaRosa, finished in 2:24:59. "I'm hoping to run 2:30 or under," LaRosa said. "It's hard to pass up — it's local and when you run well there, they provide you with so much." Not only do the elite runners in the program get the usual perks like hotel rooms, free entry and travel reimbursement, those finishing in the top five get additional prize money that can bring the champion's total to $6,000. Last year's winner, Patrick Moulton of Providence, is returning. Moulton, 27, won his first marathon in 2:21:48, after breaking away from runner-up Jonas Buud of Sweden in the 22nd mile on the Founders Bridge.

julia e. laack

julia e. laack
Julia E Laack stripped before the police to avoid arrest. According to the sources, the 36-year-old Laack was charged with stealing beef jerky and a lighter from a Sheboygan gas station. When police tried to arrest her, drunken Laack stripped infront of her children and hit a police official. A police official said that following the complaint a police party went to her residence but she begun screaming on her children. When police entered her house she stripped in the undergarments. "You can't arrest me as I am going to be naked now." Later this, Laack attacked a police official and punched at his groin. After some scuffle police successfully controlled her. Meanwhile, she has been charged in two counts one for theft and second for misbehaving with police official.
The criminal complaint alleges Laack stole a bag of beef jerky and a lighter at a convenience store Thursday afternoon. Police went to her home. The complaint said she refused to come to the door and began screaming and swearing at three children in her house, telling one that the incident was all his fault. Police entered and tried to calm her down. With her children present, the complaint said, she stripped to her underwear and told the officers they couldn't arrest her because she would be naked.
Laack struggled with the officers as they tried to arrest her, the complaint alleged, kicking one in the groin and spitting in the mouth of another. While in the squad car on the way to the police station, the complaint said, Laack exposed her buttocks against the rear window. The complaint said Laack had a preliminary blood-alcohol level of 0.112 percent. The legal blood-alcohol limit for driving is 0.08 percent. Laack remained in jail Friday night. A man who answered the phone at her home declined comment.

scituate art festival

scituate art festival
Headed for the back roads of Rhode Island to check out the changing foliage this long weekend? Then think about dropping in on the Scituate Art Festival, a three-day affair where you can pick up a painting, hear a local band or sample regional and ethnic foods. This year, more than 300 artists and craftspeople will be exhibiting their wares on the historic village green on Route 116 in North Scituate. Visitors, who number in the thousands, will be able to view and purchase paintings, prints, sculpture crafts and antiques. The event runs from Saturday to Monday beginning at 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Works being shown were selected by a jury of artists and art educators with an eye for quality and workmanship. There will also be booths where you can sample ethnic foods and refreshments. Proceeds will go to a number of Scituate nonprofits. Over the years the festival has given back some $300,000 to the town. This is the 42nd year for the festival, which began in 1967 as a means to raise money to restore the former 1831 Congregational Church on the village green. The historic church is open for tours during the festival. Each year a portion of the proceeds from the festival are put aside for the upkeep of the church. The remainder of the money raised goes to schools, libraries and organizations within Scituate.
A dozen local artists took part in that first festival, which was held indoors at the North Scituate Community House. About 500 visitors showed up. Two years later it moved outdoors, and began to expand from a one-day event to three with a growing reputation. Today, along with the Wickford Art Festival, the Scituate festival is one of the premier arts events in the state.

leif erikson day

leif erikson day
“Hey everybody! It’s Leif Erikson Day! Hinga Dinga Durgen!” is how Spongebob Squarepants welcomed the day in the famous “Bubble Buddy” episode. Today is the favorite holiday of Spongebob Square Pants, Leif Erikson Day. Most known to children from the hit animated television show in which Spongebob decides to go share the day with his friends, but none are home to revel in the joys of Leif Erikson Day. But what is Leif Erikson Day? October 9 is not associated with any particular event in Leif Erikson’s life. The date was chosen because the ship Restauration coming from Stavanger, Norway, arrived in New York Harbor on October 9, 1825 at the start of the first organized immigration from Norway to the United States.
Leif Erikson Day is an American observance occurring on October 9. It honors Leif Ericson (Leifr EirĂksson), who brought the first Europeans known to have set foot in North America, in modern day Canada. In the United States, in 1964, Congress authorized and requested the President to create the observance through an annual proclamation. Lyndon B. Johnson and each President since have done so. Presidents have used the proclamation to praise the contributions of Americans of Nordic descent generally and the spirit of discovery.
In addition to the federal observance, some states officially commemorate Leif Erikson Day, particularly in the Upper Midwest, where large numbers of people from the Nordic countries settled. In 1930, Wisconsin became the first state to officially adopt this holiday, thanks to efforts by the Norwegian-American initiator, Rasmus B. Anderson. A year later Minnesota followed suit. In 1963, the U.S. Representative from Duluth, John Blatnik, introduced a bill to observe it nationwide. The following year Congress adopted this unanimously.

yasser arafat

yasser arafat
Obama Wins Yasser Arafat “Peace” Prize: World Amazed So Barack Obama just picked up the imprimatur and nihil obstat from Oslo’s Nobel Prize Committee for “his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between people.” Yes, that’s right, this year’s Nobel “Peace” Prize goes to Barack Obama. What’s the appropriate response: incredulity? Nah: the Nobel Peace Prize is a thoroughly discredited politically-correct coefficient of liberal transnational socialism. Barack Obama was tailor-made for this dubious honor, just as Yasser Arafat was. No, the appropriate response should be a compound of contempt and irritation, contempt for the bloviating Norwegians who once again have distinguished themselves by their sanctimonious fatuousness (”Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world’s attention and given its people hope for a better future . . . .”), irritation at the fact that this pseudo distinction will, in the eyes of the credulous, tend to legitimate the actions of the most anti-American and incompetent President in history.
The Times (no, not The New York Times, which is purring with pleasure at the news, but the London Times) is correct: Rarely has an award had such an obvious political and partisan intent. It was clearly seen by the Norwegian Nobel committee as a way of expressing European gratitude for an end to the Bush Administration, approval for the election of America’s first black president and hope that Washington will honour its promise to re-engage with the world. Instead, the prize risks looking preposterous in its claims, patronising in its intentions and demeaning in its attempt to build up a man who has barely begun his period in office, let alone achieved any tangible outcome for peace.
Bottom line: this action is less the awarding of a prize than a kick in the teeth aimed at traditional American power and prestige. As usual, Andy McCarthy cuts to the chase:I’m not all for Americans winning international prizes, especially the Nobel Peace Prize. In fact, I’m vigorously against it. The transnational progressives who pass out these accolades believe America is the problem in the world, the main threat to peace, the impediment to “progress,” etc. The award is a symbolic statement of opposition to American exceptionalism, American might, American capitalism, American self-determinism, and American pursuit of America’s interests in the world.

dr. christine daniel

Dr. Christine Daniel, a non certified Family Practitioner in Mission Hills, California was able to collect more than $1 million from cancer stricken patients. Daniel sold herbs that she claimed had a “60% cure rate” for their terminal cancer from her office and on a religious television show. According to Vitals.com, Dr. Christine Daniel completed her medical degree at Temple University School of Medicine and finished her residency in Anesthesiology at Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center in California.
Of the patients that did survive from cancer, as explained in interviews, they trusted and believed her words to be true, because she was an ordained Pentecostal minister, Christian and a physician.
“You can’t be selling stuff and representing that it cures human diseases unless it has been vetted and approved” by the federal government, said Joseph Johns, an assistant U.S. Attorney in Los Angeles.
As a result of her products, Federal authorities found:
“at least 55 people who drank Dr. Daniel’s mixtures. At least three dozen who took the regimen died, some after bypassing conventional therapies.”
Dr. Christine Daniel was arraigned on fraud charges. If convicted, she faces up to 80 years in prison.

If you're still watching Dollhouse, you already know where you stand on the Eliza Dushku issue. A lot of people we know like to complain that she's the show's fatal flaw. Sure, she was great as Buffy's rebel-slayer foil, but no way is Dushku riveting enough to hold down the center. And we kind of agreed until late last season, when we remembered that in Joss Whedon's world, there is no center. His shows always rely on ensembles, complicated choruses through which he weaves countermelodies of ambivalence and moral tension. Ballard looks unimpressed. Or maybe that's his excited look. In any case, he perks up a little. "So you can do all that to me with this chair?" He had been caressing the brain-zapping chair when Topher came in; maybe in his own creepily paternalistic way, Ballard wants to feel Echo's pain.
It took Whedon an entire season to fully set up his premise, by which time he had alienated many potential fans with the misconception that Dollhouse was just a show about a hot brainwashed chick lending out her body for cash, and then baffled the other viewers who actually wanted to see that hot-brainwashed-chick series. But the DVD-only "Epitaph" episode (which you should rent, if you haven't already) made the scope of Whedon's intentions clear. Now he's letting all the players loose, and Dushku's Echo has become just a cog among many in the dark wheel that is Rossum Enterprises (even if the opening credits — a slideshow of Dushku in every sexy pose imaginable — suggest otherwise).
Although this episode is structured around one of Echo's "engagements" — this time she has been imprinted with the persona (and breast-feeding abilities) of a newborn's mom — that plotline seems less compelling than the subtle friction between Dollhouse employees. Last week, Dr. Saunders/Whisky confronted Topher, who admitted that he programmed her to disagree with him — and to be turned off by his pheremones, so he wouldn't be tempted to take advantage of her (Perhaps Letterman could learn a little something from him?). This week's episode opens with a verbal pas de deux between Topher and Paul Ballard, who has now crossed the line from Echo's savior to Echo's handler.

duggar grandchild

duggar grandchild
The first Duggar grandchild has arrived. On Thursday night, Josh Duggar -- the eldest of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar's 18 children -- and wife Anna welcomed a baby girl. Mackynzie Renee Duggar weighed 8 pounds and 19 1/2 inches, according to the Today show. Mackynzie will be in good company, considering that she has 17 aunts and uncles and another one on the way: In September, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar announced they were expecting their 19th child in the spring.
The Duggars have been married 20 years, and this season Jim Bob and Michelle are recommitting. The couple joined "Good Day Philadelphia" live from Texas on Monday morning, and guess what? Michelle's expecting again. Their latest baby is due March 18, so they're five months away. And they're going to be grandparents in the next two weeks. Asked about having grandchildren older than her children, Michelle said, "I think history is repeating itself. My mother and my sister did the same thing. When I came along, I had nieces and nephews that were older than me, and we are very close. So I think it will be a lot of fun."
Since all of their kids' names being with the letter "J," Fox 29's Mike Jerrick suggested his last name for baby No. 19, noting that it's being used more often as a first name. "It means, Jim Bob and Michelle, gifted ruler or people's ruler, and it is a Dutch surname. I recommend it," Fox 29's Jennaphyr Frederick suggested. Michelle said, "I love that name, Jerrick. That is really neat. It's perfect. … I like it. I think it's great." The mother of 18 also comforted JennFred by noting, "We've already got a Jennifer." "We'll have to take a family vote," Jim Bob said. "Yeah, we'll put that one on the list, and we'll be voting before long," Michelle said. The reality TV couple also talked about the planning that goes into feeding clothing and bathing a group as large as theirs.

nasa moon bombing

nasa moon bombing

What has come to be known as the NASA Moon bombing is scheduled to take place in the early morning hours on Friday, October 9th, 2009. The idea is to impact a projectile into one of the permanently shadowed craters of the lunar South Pole to eject a stream of dust and other material which will hopefully include water vapor. The NASA Moon bombing will be accomplished by the Lunar Crater Observation Sensing Satellite or LCROSS for short, now currently flying with a Centaur rocket stage. LCROSS was launched earlier this year along with the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, now orbiting the Moon.
Late tonight the Centaur and the LCROSS will separate, At about 7:30 AM Eastern Time, the Centaur will plow into the Cabeus Crater at a steep angle, kicking up a pillar of dust and other material. This event and the subsequent plume will be observed by nine scientific instruments on board the LCROSS before it too crashes into Cabeus. Astronomers, both professional and amateur, will be able to observe the plume created by the crashes with Earth based telescopes. The Hubble telescope and other space based observatories will also attempt to observe the NASA Moon bombing. The NASA Channel will begin a live broadcast of the NASA Moon bombing at 6:30 AM Eastern time on Friday. Various cable news networks will break in closer to the NASA Moon bombing time.
Scientists have suspected for a long time that permanently shadowed craters at the lunar poles contain ice, deposited over billions of years of comet strikes. Results from remote sensing and previous space probe crashes, such as Japan's Kaguya probe, Europe's Smart-1 and NASA's Lunar Prospector, have proven tantalizing but inconclusive. Excitement about water on the Moon spiked a few weeks ago when it was confirmed that the Indian Lunar probe, the Chandrayaan-1 detected water molecules in lunar topsoil. The existence of water on the Moon would help to facilitate future lunar settlers, who would mine the water rather than have to transport it from Earth.

SSC Ultimate Aero TT

SSC Ultimate Aero TT
According to a recent article on WheelsUnplugged it seems that the SSC Ultimate Aero TT which is a current Guinness Books World Record holder will soon be launched in India, the car is manufactured by Shelby Super Cars, the TT stands for Twin Turbo. The SSC Ultimate Aero TT currently holds the record for being the world’s fastest car, it is capable of a top speed of 413km per hour, this is thanks to its 6.35-liter twin-turbo charged V8 engine, this fuel injected engine creates 1,183 bhp of power. The car is expected to retail at around $654,400, most areas in India have speed limits of 50mph and 80 mph, so in my opinion the car would be a waste of money in India, but that said if you have the money why not, check out WheelsUnplugged for more information.

Shelby SuperCars manufactures the world’s fastest production sports car, the 2009 SSC Ultimate Aero. The newest version replaced the SSC Ultimate Aero TT and has 15% more horsepower, producing an output of 1287 horsepower. The Ultimate Aero is 6-speed manual transmission with Twin-Turbo V8 and can reach 0 to 60 mph in 2.7 seconds. The newest model has a new AeroBrake system, a spoiler that rises up 8 inches when the brake is pressed, and a redesigned nose which shortens the length of the vehicle as well as makes it more aerodynamic. The Ultimate Aero rings in at a staggering $654,000 but can reach a maximum speed of 270 mph which is the world record speed for a production car.

Google Barcode Logo

Google Barcode Logo
Today, the usual Google logo has been replaced by the ubiquitous black-and-white bar code design to celebrate the 57th anniversary of the first bar code patent. On October 7, 1952, inventors Norman Woodland and Bernard Silver were granted the first patent for their invention. The only difference between the bar code we know today and the one Woodland and Silver invented was that it was comprised of a series of concentric circles, not the 59 black-and-white vertical lines synonymous with the current design. Earlier this year, on June 26, the bar code celebrated its 35th birthday. In 1974, a scanner in a Marsh supermarket in Troy, Ohio, met the simple black-and-white striped bar code design tacked onto a 10-piece pack of Juicy fruit gum. Now, more than 10 billion bar codes are scanned in 25 industries and in places including airports, hospitals, and shipping centers, according to Motorola.
TechCrunch reports that the Google logo bar code spells out “Google” using Code 128, which they describe as “a standard way of encoding ASCII character strings (ie. A-Z, a-z, 0-9, etc.) into a bar code.” Last week, on October 2, Google replaced its “G” with a drawing of activist Mahatma Gandhi, to commemorate what would’ve been his 140th birthday. In September, Google paid homage to HG Wells, author of War of the Worlds, by adding crop circles and UFOs to its logo.
The barcode on the Google homepage is Code 128 encoded, which is a standard way of encoding ASCII character strings (ie. A-Z, a-z, 0-9, etc.) into a barcode. It would be safe to assume that Google used their own open source barcode project, ZXing, to generate the barcode. The same library is used in Android for barcode recognition. Google regularly changes its logo for holidays and other special events. Here's their 10th birthday logo from last year, for example. More recently they celebrated Gandhi's birthday. Google hosts some of their holiday logos here, and fan created logos here. (washingtonpost)

Tony Tein Death

Tony Tein Death
The Ravens have issued a statement about the death of Tony Fein. Tony Fein was found dead Tuesday morning, yet Fein’s cause of death is still unknown. As broke Tuesday evening on LALATE, Fein’s death was confirmed by his agent who still is unsure what went happened. Fein was cut from the Ravens camp this summer. Kevin Byrne, Raves spokesman, tells press Wednesday: “This is stunning, sad news. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.” On August 3, Fein was arrested and charges with assault on a police officer. Fein was then eliminated during the last round of cuts for the Ravens on September 5. Fein was in the Army for three years. In the year before going through the Ravens camp, Fein served in Iraq.
Fein’s agent tells the Baltimore Sun “I am still trying to figure out what happened.” He also tells the Clarion Ledger Tuesday: “It’s just extremely sad. I’ve talked to members of his family and some of his friends. We don’t want to speculate on the cause of death right now out of respect of his family”. His former Ole Miss head coach says late Tuesday night that Fein was “a great young man” and “will be surely missed.” Funeral arrangements have not been released. Send your love.

Debi Mazar Pictures

Debi Mazar Pictures
Debi Mazar began her show business career behind the scenes as a makeup artist for a star-studded clientele, the most lucrative of the bunch being Madonna. Attracted by her unique features, the iconic pop singer cast Mazar in the music videos for “True Blue,” “Deeper and Deeper,” and “Papa Don’t Preach.” It wasn’t until 1990, however, that Mazar made her film debut as the cokehead girlfriend of Henry Hill (Ray Liotta) in Martin Scorsese’s GoodFellas.
After taking on several more tiny supporting parts throughout the early ’90s, including one which would reunite her with Jungle Fever director Spike Lee (in the Oscar-winning Malcolm X [1992]), Mazar made her debut as a lead character in Money for Nothing (1993), a blue-collar crime comedy co-starring John Cusack, with whom she would work for a second time in Woody Allen’s Bullets Over Broadway (1994). After a brief performance as a manicurist in television’s Witch Hunt (1994), Mazar could be found in the role of a femme fatale alongside Drew Barrymore, Jim Carrey, and Val Kilmer in Batman Forever (1995), and would portray an idealistic HIV-positive thief in Red Ribbon Blues (1995).
With the notable exceptions of bleaching her trademark jet-black tresses for 1998’s Frogs for Snakes with Robbie Coltrane, and her role as Debbie De Luca in Michael Mann’s tobacco industry exposĂ© The Insider (1999), Mazar spent much of the late ’90s on the small screen. After the failure of CBS’s sitcom Temporarily Yours (1997), Mazar played lead roles in David and Lisa (a psychological drama co-produced by Oprah Winfrey) and NBC’s Witness to the Mob. Following another NBC sitcom appearance in the short-lived Working (1998), the actress starred in 2000’s CBS drama That’s Life as an advice-dispensing hairdresser.

H1N1 vaccine risks

H1N1 vaccine risks
H1N1 vaccine risks are a major concern for many Americans this flu season. With flu season just around the corner, many people are getting not only the flu shot, but the H1N1 shot as well. H1N1 vaccine risks exist. Whenever you inject something in to your body, you are not without risk. The question to ask yourself is this: is the H1N1 Vaccine Risks: A Big Controversy Covers “Life Saving” Shot The H1N1 flu virus, also known as the “swine flu” has claimed the lives of several individuals. According to the CDC, those at high risk for the H1N1 virus are children under 2, individuals over 65, pregnant women, individuals with certain chronic medical conditions such as asthma, diabetes, and HIV, and children under 19 on aspirin therapy.
Pregnant women and those caring for infants under 6 months of age are suggested recipients of the H1N1 vaccine. The H1N1 vaccine risks may be worth it for those trying to protect their children from the virus. CBS’s The Early Show discussed one of the most disturbing H1N1 vaccine risks. Someone who takes the H1N1 vaccine could develop GBC – Guillian Bar Syndrome. Dr. Jennifer Ashton estimates that this risk is only 1 in a million vaccines. 80% of GBS patients have a full recovery about a month after their onset of symptoms. 2 to 3 people can die of this disorder.
Still, that’s one of the H1N1 vaccine risks that freaks people out. According to Dr. Jennifer Ashton, GBS is a “rare, neurologic disorder that has elements of an auto-immune condition in that some trigger (usually an infection or rarely a vaccination against an infection) results in a progressive weakening of nerves. GBS starts in the legs and works its way up the body.” I will take the risk of getting a bad case of the flu over the risk of getting GBS. The H1N1 vaccine risks are just too high for me.

Emerson Digital smartset Lamp Control Security Timer

Emerson Digital smartset Lamp Control Security Timer
Emerson Digital SmartSet Indoor Lamp Control Security Timer allows you to program a lamp in your house to turn on and off automatically, Emerson will help you sooth any fears which you may feel in dark home. Emerson JMK2442 comes with SST100 lamp control security timer. The dual on/off cycles lets you choose between five operations modes: daily, weekdays, weekends, Monday-Saturday, and single time use. Its Security timer contains long-life, built-in lithium battery back-up with LED low battery warning indicator.
You can make your impression even when no one is at home. Its timer is easy to use and easy to set-up and will automatically on or off at pre-programmed times. It is very useful gadget that can program up to 4 different on and off times within 24 hours. Its security timer automatically sets to the correct year, month, date, day and time while first plugged in and after every power interruption as well as adjusts from standard time to daylight saving time automatically through the year 2099.
Personally, I don’t see it dissuading a ragtag mob of starving serfs. But the moat will take care of them. Unless they have a catapult or something, I guess. But your Emerson SmartSet Lamp Control Timers don’t offer much in the anti-siege-engine department, either, so it’s a wash. But hey, if you think turning the lights on and off at various intervals will keep burglars at bay, let’s give it a try. I don’t see the harm in it. Just plug the Emerson SmartSet Lamp Control Timer into the outlet in the wall, plug a lamp into the outlet on the timer, set the lamp to “on”, and program the timer to create the illusion that people are at home.

Holly Hester pictures

Holly Hester pictures
Holly Hester pictures, the second woman known to have had a sexual relationship with David Letterman, have hit the web. Stephanie Birkitt was the revealed as the first Letterman partner last week. Holly Hester has been quoted as saying, “I was mad in love with David.” TMZ posted the pictures and they are, of course, spreading like wildfire across the net. She has acknowledged that she had a relationship with David Letterman back in the 1990s when she was an intern for David Letterman.
Hester revealed that David had a special bedroom on the premises where the Late Show was recorded…but it was a top secret, known only to Letterman and his “special interests.” Letterman recently confessed that his affairs with staff members made him the target of a $2 million extortion plot. He apologized for his actions on Monday night’s show. Then there was Holly Hester, who interned on the show back in the 90s. And more recently (although all still well before his marriage) there was Stephanie Birkitt. A few days into this terribly exciting and amusing story (what, you mean that rich famous and powerful man gets to sleep with women?) we're now able to see pictures of all of these women.
I'm afraid that I can't actually post the pictures here, for of course they are other people's copyright and we don't do that around here. But I can point you to where there are indeed pictures. For example, here's a set of Stephanie Birkitt pictures. And here's the Holly Hester pictures. And the Regina Lasko pictures are here and here. Now have a look at those pictures of David Letterman's various girlfriends for a moment. Anyone else see more than a few resemblances between them all? As if Ol' Dave might have a "type"? Perhaps it's just your humble reporter with an overactive imagination.

Helen Thomas

Helen Thomas
Helen Thomas took President Obama’s spokesperson Robert Gibbs on a questioning drive. Helen is worried about the White House’s lack of apathy towards the public health insurance option. So the frank and blunt Helen who has covered the administrations of nine presidents in a career spanning nearly sixty years, took Obama’s spokesperson to task. When Helen felt that Robert hadn’t given a satisfactory answer and neither did she see any commitment too from his side, so she gave him another chance to speak up or deny it out-right. She asked, “Has the president given up on the public option?” she inquired from her seat.
Noting that she’s asked the same question in many different ways many times, Gibbs says, “I apparently don’t answer it to your satisfaction.” Thomas replies, “That’s right.” Then she says, “I want your conscience to bother you.” “I — I’ll — I’ll give you the same answer that I gave you unsatisfactorily for many of those other days,” Gibbs offered. “It’s what the president believes in –” “Is he going to fight for it or not?” Thomas snapped. “We’re going to work to get choice and competition into health-care reform” was Gibbs’s vague response.

Stephanie Birkitt Pictures

Stephanie Birkitt Pictures
Today one of the tope searches on Google Trends is for Stephanie Birkitt Pictures, up till now most of you might know who she is and if you don’t you have missed the event of the century regarding celebrities, yes that’s right. Stephanie Birkitt pictures are being searched for a very good reason, and that reason is Mr. David Letterman, whom she had relations with in the past. It has also been reported that she not only had intimate relations with Letterman but his possible extortionist Robert Joe Halderman as well.
CBS newsman accused of trying to obtain $2 million by extortion from “Late Show” Host David Letterman has hired Gerald Shargel as attorney. Gerald Shargel has defended Gotti and his family in the past and Halderman knew all about it because recently he produced an episode for his CBS series “48 Hours Mystery”. On the other hand Stephanie Birkitt left Robert J. Halderman and his Norwalk home long time ago, but just before breaking up in last August Joe Halderman found her diary from where he learned about the intimate relations between Letterman and Birkitt.
It is speculated, that Halderman is the one who copied those pages with relationship information and pieced together an email as a part of extortion package, it is not difficult for a person like Halderman who spend half of his life digging, investigating and putting pieces together as a investigative journalist. Whereas, his friends described him as a funny man, one of his overseas colleague described him as the ”fireman”, he said he would go to all the hot-spots and has an attractive personality and people like him, he is funny and have a big heart.

Steelers vs Chargers score

Steelers vs Chargers score
The Steelers vs Chargers score stood to be revealing, as the Steelers needed a win and the Chargers needed a statement. But the Steelers vs Chargers score turned out like almost all the other Steelers vs Chargers scores in Pittsburgh, including last year's playoffs. The Steelers vsSteelers vs. Chargers Score Puts Steelers Back on Track Chargers score was decided pretty quickly, as the Steelers jumped out to a 28-0 lead and held on for a 38-28 win. With the Steelers vs Chargers score decisively in favor of Pittsburgh, the defending Super Bowl champions can stop worrying for a little while. Two straight last-second losses without Troy Polamalu had the Steelers wondering if they had slipped down a little, and gave the Chargers hope that they could break through against them.
Instead, the Steelers vs Chargers score became lopsided early on, thanks to Ben Roethlisberger's hot start. Three straight touchdown passes to start the game put the Chargers in a deep hole that they couldn't climb out of, despite late scores. Three Chargers' fourth-quarter touchdowns were too little, too late. The Steelers vs Chargers game evened both teams' record up at 2-2, though the Steelers are more relieved to be at .500. The late struggles of the defense signal that they still miss Polamalu, however, and are still trying to sneak by until he comes back.
For the Chargers, they failed to win their first game at Pittsburgh in the regular season - despite a win there in the 1995 AFC Title Game. They are now 2-2, and already two games back of Denver in the AFC West. That kind of deficit was overcome at the end of the year - but both the Chargers and Broncos may not be the same teams from last year. With no help at all from LaDainian Tomlinson and Darren Sproles, Philip Rivers had to be a one-man show vs the Steelers. If the Chargers want to finally break through to the Super Bowl, that approach won't work. Having lost to AFC Central powers Baltimore and Pittsburgh, the Chargers aren't inspiring confidence against the elite.

Atlanta housewives fiance died

Atlanta housewives fiance died
A.J. Jewell died of head injuries following altercation outside an Atlanta strip club.By Jocelyn Vena Kandi BurrussPhoto: Bravo Ashley “A.J.” Jewell, fiancĂ© of “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star and Grammy-winning songwriter Kandi Burruss, died on early Saturday morning in Atlanta after getting into a brawl outside the strip club. Burruss released a statement on Sunday about his death. “I am devastated by the loss of A.J.,” Burruss said, according to E! Online. “His death comes on the heels of the death of my beloved Uncle Ralph and with both of them gone, my heart is heavy with grief.”
Jewell, who was 34, died of massive head injuries after getting into an altercation outside the Body Tap Club. He was allegedly beaten by Fredrick Richardson, who was arrested after being released from the hospital for injuries he received during the fight. Richardson is being charged with involuntary manslaughter, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. According to the paper, Jewell was part owner of the club and Richardson was an employee there. “I had spoken to A.J. two hours before I got the call that he was in the hospital,” Burruss said in her statement. “Never in a thousand years did I think it was going to be the last time I heard his voice. He was taken way too soon. There are so many things that I should have said to him, wanted to say to him, but now it’s too late.”
Burruss, who has worked with Mariah Carey and TLC in the past, took to her Twitter page shortly after the incident, and later wrote a blog post for the Web site HelloBeautiful.com. “A.J. had a great spirit and he was a good man,” Burruss wrote, defending her fiancĂ© from the bad rap he’d received since appearing on “Housewives.” “He was a father of six kids but had other children that he raised and loved like his own, including mine. … It truly bothered him the way he has been portrayed in the media and actually it has bothered me too. A.J. was NOT a ‘Scrub’ like so many people like to blog and say. … He did not need me for financial gain, nor did he use me to gain some type of celebrity. “In all actuality, A.J. hated and was uncomfortable with being on camera,” she added. “Off camera, A.J. was very charismatic and a friend to many. He believed in God and always genuinely tried to do the right thing.”

College Football Rankings Week 6

College Football Rankings Week 6
College Football Rankings Week 6: we have just received this week's College Football Top 25 rankings for week 6. The current rankings have been jumbled a bit from last week's list, and we have some movers and shakers in this week's Top 25 ranking poll. Let's take a look at the list, and break down in depth what moves we have seen over the last week, and what moves to expect after this weekend...
This week's Top 25 AP poll and rankings show 4 new teams amongst the top 25. South Carolina in at #25, along with the likes of Missouri who is currently 4-0, and two 5-0 teams in Auburn and South Florida. The top 3 stayed steady this week, while the top 10 basically moved a bit. The biggest mover, was Oklahoma as they plummeted from number 8 to 19 this week. They are just 2-2 on the season, and despite being a big named school and team, I really don't believe they are deserving of a spot on this list. The biggest surprise is that Miami moved back near the top 10, as they show a number 11 ranking this week with only a 3-1 start. They have been undervalued this season, but there are many other better teams in my opinion that would warrant a higher spot in this top 25.
What can we expect moving forward? Well, there are a few games that come to mind that will be in a near future college football schedule article that will be up on Tuesday. I can say that this list will move around a lot more this week, and you will start to see more and more familiar names drop off this list. The top 10 will also shift. Let me in closing state that I have said from day 1 in college betting, play against ranked teams playing non-ranked teams. It is the best value you can get, upsets happen often and in the right circumstances, you can make a ton of money, as we have seen over these last couple of weeks.

Powerball winner

Powerball winner
Powerball winners have made big money this year, and the Powerball winner last night took a tidy sum. The Powerball winning jackpot last night had gonePowerball Winner Hits $193M Jackpot in FloridaCostumes Party Ideas Kids and Safety Movies and Music Scary Stories More » up to $193, and was getting close to making big headlines again. But before it got bigger, a Powerball winner emerged from Florida to take the jackpot before it went over $200 million. It wasn't the biggest lottery grand prize of the year, but the Powerball winner got one of the biggest individual payouts of the season. According to CBS 4 in South Florida, a winning ticket from Florida got all five Powerball numbers, as well as the Powerball itself. The winning numbers were 12, 24, 48, 50 and 57, with the Powerball at 22. Allegedly, one Florida player was the only big Powerball winner of the night.
Therefore, the Powerball winner gets the full $193 million jackpot, either in a series of payments or a lump sum. It was the first successful draw in some time, as the lottery game was starting to near its jackpot heights from earlier this summer. Powerball and Mega Millions each went up to over $300 million in their jackpots a few months ago, but had stayed relatively quiet since then. The Powerball jackpot was starting to inch closer to those big numbers, before the Powerball winner in Florida hit it big. Now the jackpot goes back to a mere $20 million for the next drawing on Wednesday.
Only a few other players came close to the big payday, by hitting the first five Powerball numbers. Just two players will get the $200,000 second prize for that, as those tickets were sold in Indiana and Arizona. With the Powerball winner taking $193 million off the table, the big jackpot of the moment now falls to Mega Millions. Currently, their pot is up to $122 million, which is still relatively small by lottery standards. Their players will next go for the jackpot on October 6, before it gets a little bigger.

Madonna SNL

Madonna SNL
Lady Gaga SNL Madonna SNL Lady Gaga Saturday Night Live. Lady Gaga and Madonna mesmerized millions of their fans during their appearance on Saturday Night Live. Though the young Lady Gaga floored the people, Madonna’s electric performance gave the show its one of the best evenings. At fifty one year of age, Madonna’s face looks like a thirty year old woman. Many women will die for a face like her.
Madonna is among all time favourite singer, recording artist, actress and entrepreneur. Born in Bay City, Michigan and raised in Rochester Hills, Michigan, she moved to New York City in 1977, for a career in modern dance. After performing as a member of the pop musical groups Breakfast Club and Emmy, she released her self-titled debut album, Madonna in 1983 by Sire Records. A series of hit singles from her studio albums Like a Virgin (1984) and True Blue (1986) gained her global recognition, establishing her as a pop icon for pushing the boundaries of lyrical content in mainstream popular music and imagery in her music videos, which became a fixture on MTV.
She also gained recognition for her role in the film Desperately Seeking Susan (1985). Expanding on the use of religious imagery with Like a Prayer (1989), Madonna received positive critical reception for her diverse musical productions, while at the same time receiving criticism from religious conservatives and the Vatican.

Lady GaGa SNL

'Saturday Night Live': Lady Gaga, Madonna, the s-bomb drop, Letterman jokes, and a little funniness Ryan Reynolds may have been the host of Saturday Night Live last night, but music guest Lady Gaga provided the most notable, if not the most entertaining, moments. Carrying on what is now a mini-tradition, Lady Gaga said a four-letter-word (”Dancing to that s— on the radio”) during her first song. She also appeared in one of Kenan Thompson’s periodic house-music sketches. Gaga and surprise guest Madonna conducted a little cat-fight that had less to do with humor than with Madonna literally trying to fend off the latest usurper to her dance-music-queen status:
Other celeb sightings: Scarlett Johansen during a fake-commercial for “porcelain fountains,” and Elijah Wood in an Andy Samberg Digital Short, a hiphop parody that was arguably the funniest thing of the night: Yes, SNL did acknowledge the David Letterman scandal via two jokes by Seth Meyers on “Weekend Update” — the 48 Hours producer attempted a Stupid Human Trick, he said, and after sex, Letterman says “Stay tuned for Craig Ferguson.” Ha. Ha. At this point in its history, SNL is more about itself than about the comedy. New cast member Jenny Slate was present, with no harm done after her accidental explitive last week. Darrell Hammond’s appearance as Arnold Schwarzeneggar during “Update” was a good performance, but more notable for the fact that Hammond, who no longer appears in the opening credits of the show, turned up at all. New regular Nasim Pedrad was amusing as the wife of Fred Armisen’s Mamoud Ahamadinejad.
The most elaborately produced sketch was “So You Committed A Crime And You Think You Can Dance,” which contained some taped elements. The only time I laughed, though, was upon seeing Bill Hader’s silent Phil Spector as a judge. Bonus points to a well-thought-out PBS parody in which supposed actors from Oslo (including Reynolds, Armisen, and Kristen Wiig) performed a cop drama with accents that sounded filched from an old “Wild and Crazy Guy” sketch. Points detracted for the Family Feud sketch about John and Mackenzie Phillips whose only laughs came from Jason Sudeikis’ slick host.

Nys Dept Of Labor

Nys Dept Of Labor
New York state unemployment NYS unemployment NYS dept of labor. Governor Paterson announced today that New York State will receive approximately $4.5 million in federal grant funds for 2009 under the national Reemployment and Eligibility Assessment (REA) initiative of the US Department of Labor. The REA initiative is designed to help people receiving unemployment insurance get back to work faster by providing them with individualized job search and training services. The money comes from federal funds that support the administration of unemployment insurance. “Because of the economic turmoil New York has faced during the past 18 months, I have made it a priority that we do everything within our power to protect the most vulnerable New Yorkers, including the unemployed.
REA grant funds support additional One-Stop Career Center staff who work one-on-one with individuals receiving unemployment insurance. Staff will help workers determine what job hunting and training services they need, and then develop a job search plan customized to each person’s needs. Additionally, information on the local labor market is used to help focus the individual’s job search. Staff will continue to follow-up with each worker throughout the job search process, until the worker gets a job or exhausts his or her unemployment benefits.
Early results from the REA initiative are promising. For 2008, participants found jobs approximately two weeks faster than those in a control group. Putting New Yorkers back to work more quickly not only benefits participants, but also saves the State money. In 2009, New York could save approximately $10.4 million per year in payments from its Unemployment Insurance Trust fund (based on the current average weekly unemployment insurance benefit rate of almost $316) if program participants find a job one week faster than those who do not participate.

Maya Angelou

Maya Angelou
Maya Angelou has been taken to a Los Angeles hospital. The hospitalization of Maya Angelou was first reported by TMZ.com, and while there are limited details at this point, it is already sad that such a great woman is having to deal with something health related. Maya Angelou is by far one of the greatest poets of our time, and it has been a treat to see her perform many times. The news that Maya Angelou is in the hospital came out late on Saturday evening, as she was in Los Angeles for an awards ceremony in her honor. It was a shocking revelation by TMZ, and the hope is that more news on her condition comes out through the night.
Dr. Maya Angelou was born in 1928, and has become a poet, best-selling author, actress, and above everything else a civil rights activist in her lifetime. She isn’t known just as an influential woman, but one of the most heralded voices of the last few generations. Angelou worked with Dr. Martin Luther King and served as the Northern Coordinator for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. In a tragic coincidence, King was assassinated on her birthday. Soon after that, she worked with novelist friend James Baldwin to write what would later become known as I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.
It is beyond remarkable how much that Maya Angelou has been able to accomplish already in her lifetime, and the accolades just don’t seem to stop. Everything she has been awarded with she has earned, and she is even deserving of more than she has received. Among some of the most notable awards she has received over the years is a Pulitzer Prize nomination for a Georgia, Georgia that she wrote the screenplay and composed the score for back in 1972. She acted in Roots and Poetic Justice, and has narrated more films and documentaries than can be mentioned. Angelou also has a Presidential Medal of the Arts, a Lincoln Medal, and three Grammy Awards to her name.
