Careful what you wish for! The 2009 US Open’s sweetest Cinderella story has turned sour, as Melanie Oudin’s fame, earned by her heroic play at Flushing Meadows has turned the attention of the media towards personal and dark family issues. Various reports are now indicating that Melanie Oudin’s father has filed for divorce, alleging that Melanie’s mother, Leslie Oudin cheated on him with the 17-year-old’s tennis coach, Brian de Villiers. On Thursday at the 2009 US Open, the ladies will enjoy a day off while the Men finish their quarterfinal matches. Women’s Draw action will resume Friday, as the biggest matchup of the year will take place on Arthur Ashe Stadium.
A few days ago, 17-year-old American tennis player Melanie Oudin was just another underdog ready to be disqualified in the early stages of the 2009 US Open at Flushing Meadows. However, Melanie went on to shock some of the biggest names in tennis making her an instant household name. Some of her biggest accomplishments in New York this year included victories over: world No.4 Elena Dementieva, Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova and 13th seeded Nadia Petrova. Despite losing in the 2009 US Open quarterfinals to Caroline Wozniacki last night, everyone now knows who Melanie Oudin is, but at what cost? With fame and recognition comes attention, attention that sometimes you don’t want.
Allegedly, Melanie’s father, John, who has been married with Leslie since 1989 and have three children together wants out of their marriage. He’s claiming infidelity and accusing his wife of having an affair with Melanie’s tennis coach. According to the reports, both parents agreed "that (Leslie) will not interact with Brian de Villiers except as it specifically relates to the children's tennis activities ... (and) not to travel with Brian de Villiers to any tennis tournaments in which the children are participating."
